All I Want for Christmas is … ?

‘Tis the time of year, when everyone is bustling about trying to find that perfect gift. This year, the gift of time could be the most valuable one you give. Take the time to create some Christmas memories that you will cherish long after the tinsel and ornaments are packed away. Time can be in short supply around Christmas with all the shopping, cooking, parties and work. But I guarantee you, it is the time you spend with family and friends you will remember not the latest “toy du jour”.

During the Christmas holiday, make time to take advantage of mother nature’s gifts: crisp winter air, glistening frozen lakes and bays, snow covered trails that crunch under foot and the beauty of snow laden trees. Bundle up every member of the family, including the dog, and go for a walk at one of the Conservation Authority trails near you. Take your camera and photograph the birds you see, and then identify them when you get home, a great interactive game for the whole family. Give ice fishing a try — the Bay of Quinte has some lunker walleye. What kid big or small doesn’t love to fish?. Get family and friends together and have a winter picnic and a friendly game of shinney. You can’t go wrong with the combination of fresh air and exercise plus great food.

‘Tis the season for family and friends, so get everyone outdoors and make some memories. Reduce everyone’s Nature Deficit Disorder. Grab your hat and mittens and enjoy all the free gifts mother nature has to offer. It is time well spent. Take your camera along, you are bound to get some great winter photos. Remember, to send them in to the Photo Contest with a Twist 2.
